GOETHE PUKED HERE
HAMISH CARR &
NICKY WYNNYCHUK
OCTOBER 2-25 2008
Hamish Carr and Nicki Wynnychuk wanted to have a show together so they searched
to find a common ground. The artists include an obtuse array of influences
within their individual practices, but what they did find is that both have
an odd affection for Germanic Culture.
So, who or what would work as a crossover for this new show?
From here, it was quickly and easily decided that Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
was to be the man. Who else but the first major polymath can so affectively
pose such a formidable figure for Hamish and Nicki to draw out from?
With this decided Nicki suddenly remembered that a few years ago in Germany
he was fascinated by a sign placed under a window that read: Hier kotzte Goethe
(Goethe puked here).
