SUSAN JACOBS
SIDE EFFECT
7.3–29.3.08
Susan Jacobs’ practise has a strong basis in drawing which consistently
informs spatial construction and object making, as processes that cyclically
reference each other and often converge.
Combining organic and manufactured materials in natural and built environments,
her work is characterised by an exploration and subversion of the inherent
character and primary function of selected materials and chosen sites.
Side Effect is a new body of studio-based sculptural work comprising
charcoal, timber, graphite and lead. Objects have been formed cumulatively
- some from the by-products of the making of others. They occupy a circular
dialogue through the process of their making and their situation in relation
to each other.
