RENEE COSGRAVE
MERRYN LLOYD
Merryn Lloyd's practice shifts between the intimate and the ambitious –
where the interplay between creation and collection are central to the assemblage.
Shape, pattern, texture and colour are delicately positioned without the conveyance
of formal application.
Renee Cosgrave has shed the constraints of the page; the board; the canvas for
more spatial compositions. The landscape of her wall drawings – which
tend to disregard the direction of the architectural space – instigate
participation, if only temporarily.
In the infancy of both practices, Cosgrave and Lloyd are asking questions of
the audience and of themselves. Both artists display a considered understanding
of their tools - yet still allow the work to evolve intuitively through experimentation
and play.
