STRUCTURAL JAM: IT'S ALL LEAD GUITAR WHEN PROG ROCK
RULED
THE EARTH
MASATO TAKASAKA
MARCH 23 -
APRIL 14, 2007
OPENING FRIDAY
MARCH 23, 6-8PM
Flamboyant 80’s rock guitar virtuoso Steve Vai provides the soundtrack
for Masato Takasaka’s work in Structural jam: It’s all lead guitar
when prog rock ruled the earth. Whilst the six texta drawings in this exhibition
ignore the indulgent technical perfection of the genre, they could easily
sit as posters for Vai’s music. They are the primitive constructions
- they have rock colours, but with a folk – hand touch.
Takasaka reveals his aversion to the formality of architecture and questions
the logic of picture making. His drawings look like he is a fan of modernism,
but maybe not a die-hard fan, more like he has got other things on his mind
- a fan that wants to know what happens when it’s not quite right.
