ED FELLA (USA)
JULY 3 – AUGUST 2 2008
Currently a former Detroit commercial artist (1957–1987) and presently teaching art at CalArts in Los Angeles (1987–)
A self prescribed "exit level" designer, Ed Fella left his commercial design practice of 30 years to undertake an MFA in Design at Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1987. Whilst his technical skill has never wavered – producing gratis work for art galleries and institutions, his practice shifted and experimental collages, drawings and typographic meanderings formed a style which is uniquely recognisable – in fact unmistakable.
In 2002, Ed was resident artist in the Faculty of Art and Design, Monash University. This survey of books, drawings, photographs, posters, flyers and collages at The Narrows includes work made during his time in Melbourne.
